remember
when
your hair
was long

we would
dye it
red
our hands
stained
with henna
for days

we ate
only
grilled cheese
in
early
morning hours

you’d
cut my hair

it was uneven

somehow
made mead
for years

and no one cared

night walks
across
highways

convinced
we
could get
to our friends
two towns
over

how did we get home

you
were never
good
with tears

i would want
for
vulnerability

but i
did not
earn it
back then

we
sat
in graveyards

you’d spook me
with tales
sending
my imagination
down
a rabbit hole

i’m good at scaring myself now

we
were absurd
but
loved each other
